And now for something completely different…. or not.
Unlike my previous entries in the uncovered series, this is a song that you’d expect me to do. Since it is September, and Metallica is about to release a new album, I thought I’d cover one of their tunes.
I picked Motorbreath because it was the first song that I taught myself…. The one that I practised for hours on end to get the speed and technique (and bad habits) that form the bedrock of my guitar playing. After this I had all I needed to tackle pretty much any other song I wanted. This is me kicking it oldskool, getting back to my roots…. and playing something that is fast, heavy and full of attitude.
Don’t stop for nothing, it’s full speed or nothing….

Lyrics:
Verse 1:
Burning through
My blood
Burning brew

Twisting who
No abstain
My thoughts
No complain
Chorus:
Feel the scratch
Be the scratch
Feel the scratch
Me the scratch
Verse 2:
Ending clue
My life
Ending coup
Spreading stain
My hate
Spreading pain
Releasing new
My death
Releasing you
All again

Wanna get rowdy….
Gonna get a little unruly….
Get it fired up in a hurry….
Wanna get Dirrty….
Me covering Christina Aguilera.
This could be the coolest thing ever…. or the biggest insult to metal since Pat Boone’s “In A Metal Mood: No More Mr. Nice Guy”.
Anyway, give it a listen, tell your friends…. and then maybe contact those men in white suits to take me away because I’ve finally lost it

Another concept album…. of sorts…. to be released in its various parts as it is written…. around whatever else I might do.
No more explanations will be given, the music will speak for itself.
Lyrics:
Verse 1:
Hello….
What is that?
Echo….
What is that?
Chorus:
Where did that come from?
There is no one else
Verse 2:
Voices….
Who is that?
Noises….
Who is that?
Verse 3:
Crawling….
Why is that?
Falling….
Why is that?

To quote the wikipedia:
A juggernaut is a term used to describe a force regarded as unstoppable, that will crush all in its path.
The word is derived from the Sanskrit Jagannātha (meaning “Lord of the universe”) which is one of the many names of Krishna from the ancient Vedic scriptures of India.
Obviously (at least to those who’ve listened to some of my previous works like the classic unicorn) I’m not using it in the religious sense. I’m more using it for the meaning it has obtained in the English version.
The song itself is drawing on musical influences from Hindu music, or at least my widely limited musical experiences of such music. It is an instrumental, mainly because when I grow up I want to be Joe Satriani (or at least play on the G3 tour). Plus the song is weird enough without me adding any lyrics….

The start of a new year of songs, and the start of a few new features.
Firstly, newly redesigned logos, album art and other miscellaneous pretty things.
Secondly, a new series within the songs. Uncovered. Which is me covering songs written by other people…. and they won’t always be the most obvious source material.
This is THAT song by John Paul Young. Partly I did it to make all your heads explode…. Boom.

It is finished.
52 weeks…. 1 song every week….
Over 4 hours of free metal.
It is has been a rewarding experiment, it has allowed me to express and develop my own unique style…. which I’ve dubbed Experimetal - it is basically what happens when all my various influences get mixed in together. Those influences being from old school thrash to progressive metal…. from crazy shred to slow blues…. from electro industrial to stripped down punk…. from the extreme and gothic to church worship and hymns….
This song is sort of a culmination, summation and mission statement…. a way for me to cap off and finalise the year. It has some familiar themes - chaos, nihilism - but mixes in references the laws of thermodynamics. Totally my kind of song….
And remember that death is not the end…. but only a transition.
Lyrics:
Verse 1:
Corruption spreading
To all of the world
Watch it all crumble
Watch it all tumble
Chorus:
There’s a game
You cannot win
You will lose
You cannot quit
Verse 2:
No happy ending
Loaded dice to roll
Feel it all shatter
Feel it not matter
Bridge:
Ending the pain
Give into nature
There is no
Meaning to
The universe
Embracing the laws
For heat death will conquer all….

Wikipedia says: “The Eucharist, also called Holy Communion or Lord’s Supper and other names, is one of the Christian sacraments said to have been instituted by Jesus of Nazareth.” Most churches in some way celebrate this barbaric ritual. I say barbaric, because it has roots in pagan sacrificial worship…. not surprising since Christianity ripped off virtually every one of its ideas, idols and instructions from someone else (bonus points for those who can name the one original idea…. hint, it came after the Bible was written).
Not only is the word silly, but so are the whole host of theologies that its presence has precipitated. Even when you strip it away to the core, you still are left with the ludicrous idea that the human avatar of God died for our sins, and was raised again on the “third” day, and that somehow God dying is the only way to satisfy Gods need for vengeance. It is this lie that is at the heart of Christianity, a lie based on nothing but a few virtually anonymous conflicting accounts of events.
This song draws on these various themes, and the anger I feel when I realise how much these simple lies have corrupted not just my own life, but the course of history for the entire world…. It would be nice to wake up tomorrow and have everyone see the truth and give up on all the various falsehoods they believe, religious or otherwise, but that is impossible…. Instead, I hope this song can help change the views of even one person. If that were to happen I would be filled with εὐχαριστία.
Lyrics:
Verse 1:
This is my body
This is my blood
Sustained by lies my son
Build up my people
Build up my church
Founded on rock of none
Chorus:
You car wrist
False god feast
Must resist
Eat the beast
Verse 2:
Bow down to wafers
Bow down to wine
Nothing inside the books
Give to the father
Give to the cause
Pay the price for crooks
Bridge:
Sand under foundation
Leave truth at the door
Blind entire nation
Obey sacred whore
Religion corrupting
All it does enthral
Fight back is erupting
We will kill ‘em all
Verse 3:
Destroy the dogma
Destroy the lies
All faith shattered by doubt
Rely on logic
Rely on truth
Escape the damned devout

So, I have a new guitar, an Ibanez RG-1570. One of their Prestige guitars, made in Japan, totally designed to shred…. but also able to pull some nice slow bluesy licks.
This song was recorded with that guitar. Hence, it is a guitar driven instrumental, and hence I tried out various sounds and styles….
Not much more to say than that.
