The main riffs in this song were written after finding out my dog had died, just months after losing my other one.

The first recording was done with the Tele’o'doom, using Amplitube set to a fuzz -> clean classic stoner rock type tone. With that fuzz being turned off for the clean parts.

I finished the song a few months later, adding and extra layer of riffs and the solos with my Les Paul into Amplitube set to the Orange Rockerverb. With the gain being up for the heavy parts and down for the clean parts. I also used the Proton Envelope Filter for the first time on the solos and the last time the main riff comes around, although that was with a different setting.

The title is a reference to the name of the dog, since he was named Chachi by my mum after the character on Happy Days.

I wrote this song while drinking some nice 16 year old Tawny (specifically this Château Reynella Rare Old Tawny) because I love my “you can’t call it Port anymore”.

Now it could just be about that, or it could be about killing teenage girls. More likely it is the product of fortified wine and playing lots of the game Prototype. It could be about all of the above. Who knows, I wrote it completely on port-fuelled autopilot.

It was written on my V-coustic, but played on the Tele’o'doom and Silvertop Special. All tuned to Open C through the Amplitube Orange Rockerverb Model. Everything else was pretty much my usual stuff, except on most of the guitar solos (all except the first one), when my new 3 Leaf Audio Proton Envelope Filter got some use.

I needed some music for something I’m doing over at Frozen Beer Reviews. So I wrote some. This is it.

• Title is from That can be my next tweet! a site that creates a tweet based on your previous ones. It is usually almost sensical, and I just hit refresh until I got something cool.
• Left guitar (in both picture and the song) is my Silver Top Special, an Epiphone Les Paul with Dimarzio Chopper and Crunch Lab pickups, thru a Soldano SLO100 model in the new Amplitube
• Bass is as before, running thru the Studio Devil British Valve Custom
• Right guitar is the upgraded Tele’o'doom, with Seymour Duncan Boobuckers, thru an Orange Rockerverb 50 in the new Amplitube

Not much else to say, its just some cool riffage and improv’d solos that sound cool.

This song was written for the Skepticator Live skeptics open mic night side event for TAMoz. If a recording of that show surfaces I’ll be sure to share the stripped down version, but for now you have to put up with the extended studio mix.

It was meant mostly in jest, and any references to the Bad Astronomer and his member are purely coincidental.

Interesting side note, I changed the pickups in the Tele’o'doom during the recording of the song. The first solo and right side rhythm guitar are the old Duncan Designed ones, the later solo and left side rhythm are the new Seymour Duncan Boo-Buckers I won. Also, the distortion in the bridge was provided by my new ProTonePedals Atheist Distortion (which you can see my satirical “demo” video of here: Pastor Dan Reviews the Atheist Distortion)

It’s not a depressed or angry rant about religion. Yay!!!!!

Although it is…. weird. Both in lyrical content and musical structure.

On the first point, well, I blame the internet, specifically the phrase “steak duck” was from this post on reddit and a lot of the other lyrical content is inspired by this badly translated menu.

So there’s this competition, you can win a bunch of stuff including a guitar.

To enter, you have to jam out some blues.

So I did.

Problem is, I didn’t want to go to the trouble of using an amp or anything, so I plugged the Tele’o'doom direct and used some free plugins for the sound.

Problem is, I couldn’t decide between the fake Marshall, fake vintage fuzz or fake Boogie tones. So I just gave up and layered them all in together.

I also used some new free delay and reverb plugins I found to round out the sound.

So even when I don’t win, it was still good as a tonal experiment. Plus, both of my fans get to here a new tune.

We all know the classic morse code sms alert tone:

This is that, but played in my usual metal style.

I recorded this at the end of 2008 for my own personal use, but I thought someone out there might want it. It’s a full “band”: drums, bass, rhythm and lead guitars, and it really cuts through any background noise.

I’ve never not heard this when my phone isn’t on silent.
