The Chainsmokers Look to Evolve With New Record and Direction

It would be easy to forget that The Chainsmokers are still a relatively new band in the world of pop music. Despite perpetually living on top of the Billboard Top 40, artists Alex Pall and Drew Taggart are still honing in on the skills that are going to carry them forward throughout their career. Recently The Chainsmokers released a new single, titled ‘Sick Boy’, and it showcased the new direction that the pop-DJ duo is planning on heading in. The Chainsmokers are calling this the next step in their new ‘era’ and it is looking like it’ll be the biggest one yet.

Alex Pall and Drew Taggart were just two musicians living and working in New York City when they were connected by a mutual friend. After being connected it was quickly revealed that the two had serious chemistry and similar aspirations in the world of music. So they quickly set to work and turned music into their job and their job into one of the biggest pop acts in the entire world. The ‘Closer’ and ‘Paris’ stars tapped in on an EDM/DJ craze that was either rising at the same time as them or rising BECAUSE of them. Either way, The Chainsomkers proved early on that they were here to stay.

With their early success, Taggart and Pall came to the realization that they had more freedom in how they were going to pursue their future endeavors. ‘Sick Boy’ marks a marked departure from how their past songs have felt. Taggart points out that ‘Sick Boy’ is the first track that the duo has released over the past nine months which is a dramatic departure from their typical, grind-it-out schedule of constant releases. Taggart says that they like to be ‘current’ with the pop culture scene but it was nice to sit back and have the freedom to take their time.

all have always been active in the songwriting department for their tracks, ‘Sick Boy’ is elevated more by their decision to put Taggart on lead vocals for the first time in the band’s career. Is this the beginning of a complete reinvention of The Chainsmokers?

Alex Pall and Andrew Taggart

Recently, the Chainsmokers released their popular hit “closer,” which featured the talented singer, Halsey. Some of their other top chart hits include; “Something just like this,” which features Coldplay, “Roses” “Paris” and “Don’t let me down,” which featured Daya. Instead of hiding behind a DJ, Alex and Andrew are trying to reveal themselves more and more as they release their music. They are also trying to expand their crowd and grow a bigger audience.

It didn’t take the duo group but on a couple of years to create a few popular hits that topped the charts.

Before the chainsmokers, Alex Pall had a passion for DJing, and he did it as a side job in New York. Andrew was afraid to try and make his music a career, but he realized that it was his passion and he wanted to pursue it, so one day he told his manager that he wanted to give it a shot. He quit his job and pursued what he loved. Shortly, his manager introduced him to his former member, Andrew.

Before the chainsmokers, Andrew lived in Maine. He was a college student with a dream of making it big in the music industry. He watched other DJs getting their big breaks, and it inspired him to continue his dream. He started producing and even put out a couple of songs. One day, he was told that the chainsmokers needed a second member, and so he hopped on a bus and headed to New York to meet Alex’s manager.

Alex explains their meeting as “Love at first sight.” They started creating music instantly, and it didn’t take them long to come up with their recent big hits. They are currently working on new music, in hopes of creating music that their fans can relate to.

Alex Pall’s Chainsmokers Brings Emotion to EDM

In the last couple of years Alex Pall and Andrew Taggart, the duo that makes up the Chainsmokers, have been blowing up in the music scene with hits like “Closer” with Halsey and “Don’t Let Me Down”. The New York City-based duo is one of the few electronic dance music producers that isn’t just making the same generic music and instead is putting themselves into their music with their own lyrics and voices. Alex Pall started his musical career as a DJ in the New York City club scene while continuing to work his day job. He soon saw his hobby growing and consuming more and more of his time until he came to the decision that he wanted to give his music a real shot. After speaking with his manager, that he still has today, Alex Pall was introduced to Andrew Taggart and the two immediately hit it off. The two shared the same taste in music as well as a strong drive to succeed.

The next day they were in Alex Pall’s New York apartment making music. Taggart moved to New York from Maine and Alex Pall quit his job. The two were working on music every day for hours on end. While their hours may have been long Alex Pall and Andrew Taggart didn’t see the music, they were producing a job, they both enjoyed it too much. They did know that there was a lot of work to do though and dedicated themselves to making music. See Related Link to learn more.

While at first, Alex Pall and Drew Taggart tried to make music that was relatable to their audience like the rest of the music in the genre. As Taggart and Pall became more secure in themselves as artists they put themselves into their music. They stopped trying to relate and started writing about their own experiences in life. In a sea of electronic music with heavy beats and even heavier drops, the Chainsmokers are putting emotion into a genre that is lacking a human element.
