Ars Moriendi…. The Art of Dying….
A metal song, with nothing to do with Medieval theology, but some lyrical influence from Battlestar Galactica…. especially the episode Revelations that I watched last night…. which in turn brings with more influences than there is sand on that beach…. You maniacs!
Lyrics:
Verse 1:
Clouding our minds
Darkening skies
All here reminds
Silencing mirth
Prepare for worst
Across the earth
Hearing the sound
Cutting them down
Death is around
Chorus:
Welcome to the end
Now say goodbye
Ars Moriendi
Verse 2:
No way to pause
Returned echoes
Of our own cause
Seed that we’ve sown
Corrupting our soul
Death by our own
The last hurrah
Of our worldwide
Dystopia

This song is about me….
Lyrics:
Verse 1:
Feeling the cold in your bones
Nobody cares for your moans
Shielding their eyes from the glare
Reflecting from your despair
Another cube on the line
Frozen in place by the shine
Chorus:
Glaciers growing across the sun
Sleet and rain on everyone
Draining away the season
For frozen summers have begun
Verse 2:
Icicles hold you in place
Destroyed by the lies of grace
Wishing you could feel the warm
Or just shelter from the storm
Allow you to heal the scar
Hide from the dark of the star

So…. I recorded a song for this week, but Garageband decided to crash instead of saving my work…. which led to my blue Jackson Kelly being rendered unusable.
Instead of rerecording that song, I decided to write an instrumental to purge some of the bad emotions…. and this is that song. It has a nice bluesy feel - probably from the combo of the A pentatonic blues scale, a cheap strat knockoff thru a class A amp (although its only a model) and the cheesy organ…. Of course, it wouldn’t be a song of mine if it didn’t have some weird noises, heavy riffs and over-the-top shred (which even includes some of that two handed tapping)
The title refers to the broken guitar, but is also a tip of the hat to Merlin Mann (aka hotdogsladies) and the You Look Nice Today podcast. Of course…. if those guys hear this and mention me…. My cunning plan will have worked….

This is what happens when I play around with the chords to Lord I Lift Your Name On High, and take some inspiration from my new favourite band of the moment - The Birthday Massacre.
Of course, when you mix up all those elements, fold in my stream of subconsciousness lyrics, and pour on a bucket of lead guitar action it still ends up sounding like my usual unique experimetal.
But feel free to tell me what you think….
Lyrics:
Verse 1:
Step right through
Take a seat here
Please ignore
Stains on the floor.
Welcome to
Your darkest fear
It’s all right
Enter the light
Chorus:
You dream of heaven
Cult of the seven
Erode all reason
Carnage in season
Verse 2:
Open wide
We won’t be long
Soon you will
See your blood spill.
You can’t hide
Your choices wrong
You get iced
Just like your christ.

Another instrumental…. with the emphasis on the mental. I decided to have a play with lots of synths, a sample, my guitar and the Hungarian Gypsy scale. This was the result.
I like it…. but it’d be great if you could leave a comment and tell me how y’all feel about it.
