This song grew out of the article by Naomi Wolf entitled “Fascist America in 10 easy steps”. It is sung from the point of view of the government propaganda, with a twist of Hamelin, and just a little 1984 for the sake of completing the cliché.

The music is a little different to my usual thrash, and was inspired in some part by the theme music of the wrestling site Ultimate Surrender. Which they play at the start of each round but also has a variation of just the first chord on the guitar with the bass playing the rest for the timeouts. That style is under the start of the “singing” in the chorus, with the riff actually coming in full after a couple of lines. I wanted the solo to evoke the sound of the sirens who are there to “protect” you.

New microphone! Or at least it was new when I recorded this song, so hopefully the vocals sound much better.

Now this song is inspired by one that was written by people I knew way back in high school (which was also called “Call For Backup”), that song somehow survived thru my various computers, hard drive failures, mp3 purges and what have you so that I still have it. A sample from that tune is used right at the start (and has been tweaked to sound like a badly tuned distant radio). If you have heard the original (or you wrote it) feel free to contact me.

My song is quite a bit different, with the only inspiration drawn actually being with the chorus – the verses were actually written before I borrowed what I did from that tune. It is rap-metal…. but don’t let that put you off, it is quite good, and loaded with more obscure references than an episode of gilmore girls. It still has lead guitar, and cool riffage and the rap parts are done cookie monster style – I did it all for the cookie
