ChaotiMusic.com 010 – Tenebrous Ephemeral Amnesia

Music — drchaotica on September 30, 2007 at 9:03 am

Another song. This one is a little different. It started with the verse riff, which was written on guitar, but I decided to just have being pounded out by organ and bass. When trying to write out the organ I realised that the riff was of an odd length, and therefore it is kinda a different time signature. The other riffs and melodies were written around this.

The whole song is based around the “flat fifth” or “diabolus in musica”. The song does reference the infamous use of said interval in the Black Sabbath song Black Sabbath in more ways than one. The bridge was my attempt at a Zakk Wylde style riff to reference the modern stuff off Ozzy, and to balance out the lack of guitar thru most of the song.

The lyrics are serial killer-esque, with the killer struggling to understand and then embracing his “destiny”. Although the chorus implies that he isn’t completely in control, and is being influenced by external forces to commit whatever unnamed acts it is that he is perpetrating.
Lyrics:

Verse 1:
Once Again
Duration has been mislaid
Temporal
Schizmatic lacuna
Confusion
Unknown activities
Tenebrous
Ephemeral amnesia
Evidence
Clothing sanguinary
Demonic
Is evil controlling me

Chorus:
Chosen one, we awake, possession, we will take
Kill ‘em all, spread dischord, under our thrall, swing the sword
Hand of doom, eyes of fire, from our tomb, evil inspire
Chosen one, we awake, possession, we will take

Verse 2:
Compulsion
A kind of thaumaturgy
Impetus
Baneful inclination
Surrender
Embrace my destiny
Unify
With daemon interior
Entropy
Futile is refusal
Murderous
Carnage proclivity

ChaotiMusic.com 009 – That Medieval Meme

Music — drchaotica on September 23, 2007 at 9:44 am

There has been a bunch of talk around the interwebitubes of “militant atheism”, as if Richard Dawkins et al was actually advocating some kind of violent uprising against religion. He obviously isn’t, but this song is almost a proper militant athiests anthem. It definitely has just enough to still include the methods of the “new athiests” (amongst our weapons as it were) but it is like the Sea Shepherd to their Greenpeace.

The verse riff was written when I just picked up the guitar in passing, and was just fooling around. Then I wrote the words of the chorus on the bus (that was replacing the train I was meant to catch due to trackwork) and the rest of the song sorta just flowed from there. And it flowed quite a lot, reaching over 7 minutes in length. It even has flutes…. and cowbell.

The bridge is cool, and a special prize for the first one to comment with the name of the song that the bridge guitar solo melody is “inspired” by. Which you can leave along with all other questions, feedback and homeland security subpoenas in the comments section.

Lyrics:

Verse 1:
We who are sick of your constant lunacy
We who commit blasphemous heresy
We who believe in proof by evidence
We who indulge in untold decadence
We who do not think in styles primitive
We who inspect with senses inquisitive
We who are sick of your steady hypocrisy
We who will fight to hinder theocracy

Prechorus:
Take up arms and join the fight
From the shadows we will strike
Revolution starts tonight
Exterminate religious Reich
Kill all Godly is our creed
To make all believers bleed
Atheism will succeed
By sword or rational plead

Chorus:
Reducing the ranks of the reputed redeemed
Massacring the mass of that medieval meme
Slashing the sea of the spiritual scene
Massacring the mass of that medieval meme

Verse 2:
We who are armed to the teeth with argument
We who have proved that life is a chance event
We who are done with respectful masquerade
We who see thru supernatural charade
We will make sure that your lies are neutralised
We will ensure that religion is euthanised
We who will not hold back what we intend
We who will use any means to achieve our end

ChaotiMusic.com 008 – I Am Chaotica

Music — drchaotica on September 16, 2007 at 9:26 am

A nice little tune in 6/8 time, which was interesting because Garageband doesn’t come with any loops that aren’t in 4/4 time. I wrote the drums on the train one day, and wrote and recorded the main musical bits the next day. The day after I decided to change everything around, dropping one section, switching the order of the sections. The music itself was in an interesting key – E Roumanian Minor – that I found on some music theory site (if anyone actually knows where and when this scale originated and any famous uses of it, please let me know).

Then came the lyrical goodness, and I decided to make the song a story, because the key and time signature had a real traditional folk kind of feel. Of course, in my story the song is sung by the victor, and the victor is from the evil side. I also pulled out some ye olde english words to give it that travelling bard kind of feel. Yes, the vocals are all me, and there is no pitch shifting involved – I really can hit those high notes in the chorus.

Questions, comments, feedback and offers to take the real life sorceress role in the comments section – or via my email.

Lyrics:

Verse 1:

Won’t you sit down
Let me spin you a tale
Of fearless adventurers
On a quest to assail

A fortress of darkness
Wherein there resides
A reprobate knave
Wickedness bonafide

The diversified posse
Has many a skill
To battle the minions
And vanquish evil

A paladin leads them
The berserker just fights
The sorceress’ brings magic
The rogue’s out of sight

Chorus:
Darkness
Blood I will taste
Good I will waste
Desires Debased

Darkness
Blood he will taste
Good he will waste
Desires debased

Evil
Like the morning star
Like the Marquis de Sade
I am Chaotica

Evil
Like the morning star
Like the Marquis de Sade
He is Chaotica

Verse 2:
They see in the distance
The castle they seek
But the host that is guarding
Is the inverse of weak

The sorceress concocts
A cunning old plot
To sneak in the back way
So they won’t get caught

The passage is covert
They avoid the blockade
But the exit is guarded
It’s an ambuscade

The lady of magic
Is a mistress of him
So she kisses their quarry
As the slaughter begins

Chorus

ChaotiMusic.com 007 – Unicorn

Music — drchaotica on September 9, 2007 at 10:30 am

Yes. the song is about unicorns. Pink unicorns.

The song is also very heavy, I wrote it in Open C tuning, which I first heard in the work of Devin Townsend. The interesting thing would be that his “music” and my “music” are probably on the whole in the same sub-genre of metal.

The unicorns in question may also be invisible, and be part of a satiric parody religion. The interesting thing would be the link between this religion and the polyweekly podcast that I listen to.

The satiric parody religion aspects may make up the “message” of the song. The interesting thing is that I manage to blaspheme against most of the major religions, and some of the minor ones while also including some of the other religious parodies.

Lyrics:

Chorus:
Unicorn, men they seek, but can’t find.
Unicorn, reclusive, horned equine.
Unicorn, chaste virgin, trap to bind.
Unicorn, is it just in your mind

Verse 1:
Fantastic beast, the great unicorn
Congruent to a horse, but forehead with horn
Untameable and wild, mysterious might
Many seek to find it, but try as they might
No specimens are captured, in vain is the hunt
The logical conclusion, although it is blunt
The documented sightings, just optical illusion
Or fabricated tales, or products of delusion

Chorus

Verse 2:
Invisible and pink, horse with a horn
A messianic hebrew, to virgin is born
In the air spaghetti, a noodley appendage
A burning piece of shrubbery, with a holy message
Flying cosmic teapot, Campus Crusade for Cthulhu
Buddha, Allah, Brahman, Wiccan Goddesses & Xenu
Believing supernatural claims, a dissonance of reason
Your faith is just a futile act of intellectual treason

Chorus

Bridge (spoken)
The Invisible Pink Unicorn is a being of great spiritual power.
We know this because she is capable of being invisible and pink at the same time.
Like all religions, the Faith of the Invisible Pink Unicorn is based upon both logic and faith.
We have faith that she is pink;
We logically know that she is invisible because we can’t see her

Chorus

ChaotiMusic.com 006 – Think About This

Music — drchaotica on September 2, 2007 at 9:40 am

And now for something completely different…. I had a few riffs, but no real idea for the song. So I went down a more experimental path, don’t worry this is no John Cage noise (or silence), but it also isn’t a “band” song. There is some record scratching, congas, and the vocals are sampled. It still has more or less a standard structure though….

The vocals in question are from a sermon I preached back when I was a brainwashed evangelical. The sermon in question was based around James 2:14-28. I may have sampled myself so thoroughly out of context as to completely reverse the message…. but you had to expect that. In fact, it was remarkably easy to do so, with most parts being just direct whole quotes. There was some word replacements – “lord” -> “whore” for instance. I also dropped the cool and humorous “stalker” analogy…. it just didn’t fit.

I don’t have the lyrics, because I didn’t sing any. The samples were just arranged “at random” as I went along, but they should be audible – it was just me speaking not the screamy-growly stuff I usually do. Except the intro, where I took my opening prayer – and reversed and pitchshifted it to make some classic backmasking rumbles

As usual, address all questions, comments, feedback and inquisitions (expected or not) to the comments section or to my email – drchaotica@chaotimusic.com.

PS – The next 3 weeks are all normal metal songs – or at least as normal as my metal gets ;-)
