ChaotiMusic.com 004 – Ballad of the Recently Departed (Slight Return)
So I watched the classic zombie film – Return of the Living Dead, then I decided to write a song but I was too lazy to get out my guitar. I started up garageband, and just started fooling around with the musical typing on the default Grand Piano track you get on a new song.
Intersting Trivia Fact #1 – I had a little casio keyboard back when I was a young whipper snapper.
I came up with that piano melody, then I started layering in different guitar versions, and had while bouncing the melody in my head and realised (inspired by the film I had just watched) that the words – “I want to eat brains” fit perfectly.
Interesting Trivia Fact #2 – The film was the first to have fast zombies, talking zombies and brain eating zombies.
I layered in the vocals, the artistic aim being that a chorus of zombies is being built up as the infection spreads…. and then the hero starts taking them out one by one and the chorus is de-layered.

UPDATE 26/08/07 – Lyrics!
I want to eat brains,
I want to eat brains, to eat brains.
I want to eat brains,
I want to eat, want to eat, want to eat.

Sounds pretty cool – have you tried it with a pipe organ instead of the piano? (I’m thinking a gothic grand pipe organ would sound pretty cool and fit well with the lyrics)
Mmm… brains. Who doesn’t love the grey jelly goodness?
I’ll give you a penny for your thoughts, but a dollar for the whole brain!
I am deeply envious of how you took a simple riff (which is catchy, nice work!) and turned it into a full song! It also narrowly, but successfully, avoids becoming monotonous, so I do like it! Also, the stuff you do with the vocals is very cool… have you considered looking around for a band to play in? It could be a cool creative outlet for you, and it would give you something to do at nights…
A band…. that’d require a quite significant gear outlay. My Behringer plastic box is cool, but it ain’t built to gig – and getting a series of tubes and speakers to play live would be very expensive….
There would also be all the travel, plus being in a “band” is so 20th century…. I want to be internet famous!
