Nazis! Acoustic guitar! Jazz! All are now available in one place…. this song. I started with a jazz progression I’ve wrote years ago, but until this point had only used it for mood music during ancient pseudo-cannibalistic rituals. I had written the music, and the vocal melody, but had no lyrical ideas. So to gain some inspiration I started with the wikipedia front page and somehow ended up on the article about the Reichstag fire which was the event that allowed the Nazis to seize real power in Germany.

So I based the lyrics on the Reichstag Fire Decree which blamed the events on communist terrorists, and used that threat to gain tyrannical power “for the protection of people and state”.

Of course it isn’t purely a jazz song, and gets all heavy at the end when I do the heavy handed moral message bit and apply the lessons of history to the current world situation.

So I watched the classic zombie film - Return of the Living Dead, then I decided to write a song but I was too lazy to get out my guitar. I started up garageband, and just started fooling around with the musical typing on the default Grand Piano track you get on a new song.

Intersting Trivia Fact #1 - I had a little casio keyboard back when I was a young whipper snapper.

I came up with that piano melody, then I started layering in different guitar versions, and had while bouncing the melody in my head and realised (inspired by the film I had just watched) that the words - “I want to eat brains” fit perfectly.

Interesting Trivia Fact #2 - The film was the first to have fast zombies, talking zombies and brain eating zombies.

I layered in the vocals, the artistic aim being that a chorus of zombies is being built up as the infection spreads…. and then the hero starts taking them out one by one and the chorus is de-layered.

To quote what I said at the time: “The name has all kinds of puns and alliteration. It is a 2:37 instrumental track, grooving drop-d riff (played on my tele’o'doom which needs new strings), searing lead (played on the pointy jackson) and some nice breakdown action. Drums played by my macbook as usual. No bass because my spector needs to have the pickups resoldered once again, and I’m lazy”

So…. another week, another song. This one has lyrics, and an interesting story. I’d written the musical bits, and was struggling to find any inspiration for the words. Frustrated, I put it aside and jumped on the exercise bike and started a video to distract. This video was a scene from wiredpussy.com with the awesome Harmony in charge (shootid 4229). I jumped off the bike, picked up my guitar and wrote the chorus and first verse on the spot.

As you’d expect with that kind of inspiration the lyrics are very NSFW, and the song ended up being sort of a BDSM love song from a bottom to a top. I myself have never engaged in the activities mentioned…. I haven’t even kissed a girl
